Babies are incredible little creatures. When they are born, they are so dependent on us adults. They learn from us, they need our love and comfort, they need our full attention. We are the ones who teach them how to walk, speak, interact with others, and so on. As they grow older, we teach them important life lessons; to respect others, how to be a good person and many many more. But there is something truly amazing about the way babies experience the world around them. They are present in the moment they are in. There is no past and no future, just now. I believe that as much as we teach them, they can teach us a great deal about life as well. We were all babies once, but it seems as if we have forgotten how to enjoy our lives. After watching my ten-month-old for a while, I…

I was asked by a family member a while ago what language am I talking to my daughter. When I said that it’s mainly Slovak, she was pleasantly surprised. She also told me that she knows few Slovak couples living abroad who didn’t teach their kids our native language. That sparks a question. Is it really that important to teach a child your mother tongue when you live in foreign lands? You see, when you live abroad, you may feel that you have to teach your child a community language first and if that language is English, it just makes so much sense. English is widely spread around the globe and you would much rather your child to be fluent in an international language, right? I agree, but don’t dismiss your mother tongue just yet. It should still be on your list of top priorities. While to me it comes…

Visiting our families abroad and hence flying is a regular part of our lives. We’ve had two abroad trips with our ten-month-old so far and are about to visit Slovakia again, so I think it’s a good idea to share some tips about organising and planning for the journey. If you want some hints about the actual flight and how to survive it without too much stress, then read this.

Now then, do you want to know how to pack when traveling with a baby? What do you need for the duration of the flight? Read this checklist for flying with a baby, plus I offer some of my tips here and there. This guide is about short haul flights only (2-3 hours), so please bear that in mind.

What’s the best season to have a baby? And is any season better than the other at all? Some parents don’t really mind which time of the year will their offspring be born, while others prefer specific month or months. Our little one was born in June, and from my experience, it’s the perfect time to have a baby. We certainly didn’t plan to have a summer baby, but it happened anyway.

So, let’s find out why having a baby in the summer is awesome.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and, yeeey, it’s my very first. Thinking about this special day made me reflect on the past nine months since I became a mum myself. What a life-changing experience it’s been? And where’s the time actually gone? It seems just like yesterday when we brought our little girl home from the hospital. Oh boy, how much has happened since then? The last nine months have been the most challenging but also the most beautiful of my life so far. There have been highs and lows, laughter and cry, moments of pure joy and moments of desperation. But one thing is for sure. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being a new mum means your whole life as you knew it before you had your baby is turned completely upside down. Your entire life suddenly revolves around this tiny human being who becomes…

We’ve been using Joie Mimzy Snacker high chair for a few months now, so I think it’s a good time to write a review about how we are getting on. Overall, I’ve been happy with this purchase, it’s got some lovely features, although it’s not without faults. It’s very safe and comfortable for my little one. We bought it when my daughter was about five months old when we wanted to start introducing solid food. As she couldn’t sit unsupported then, we used it in a semi-reclined position but have since moved on to an upright position only. If you want to know the good and the bad, then read on as I inform you about all the details in this Joie Mimzy Snacker high chair review. Key features of Joie Mimzy Snacker high chair This unisex high chair has three reclining positions, easy to fold mechanism (can be folded and unfolded…

Baby at the wedding. A match made in heaven or a combination from hell? What happens when you mix these two ingredients together? Surely, babies can steal the limelight with the cute dresses and smart little outfits, but they can also cause some major distractions, to say the least. My sister got married last year when my baby was three months old. I was so excited. Of course, for my sister getting married but also that my whole family will finally meet my little girl. Living in the UK means that I don’t get to see my extended family in Slovakia very often. So, I was really looking forward to it. My baby was used to sleep and nap with a background noise of music, TV and talking, so I was expecting her to be just fine on the day. Still, I should know by then how predictably unpredictable babies…

What’s the best sleeping position for a baby? Simple question, yet even here you might get various answers from different health professionals.

Here, in the UK, it is widely recommended that babies should sleep on their backs. Ever since I became pregnant, I read everywhere that’s the safest position for a baby’s sleep. Plus, the midwives, health visitors and other health professionals have only confirmed this. You read about the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and it scares many new parents more than anything else.

Bringing another human being into this world is one of the most beautiful milestones in woman’s life. But the actual childbirth is often associated, and rightly so, with pain.

Giving birth or at least spending part of your labour in water can have a massive impact on the overall childbirth experience. Having experienced water labour myself, I know exactly how beneficial water can be in these crucial moments.

When you have a baby, there are lots of decisions you will have to make, and the feeding choice will be one of the first. Breastfeeding was a natural option for me. I didn’t even think for a second about it. The only thing I wish I had known before my baby was born is how difficult it REALLY is. Yes, I heard that if a baby doesn’t latch properly, it may hurt, but boy, what a pain that was. If you want to breastfeed your baby, then I applaud you, because you will give your little one the best start in life. But be prepared, the beginning might be almost unbearable. It will be hard, and it will be most certainly painful, almost to the point when you are ready to give up. Nevertheless, it’s still worth the sacrifice, when I see Little E growing and becoming a young…
